Cassie Simonton gears up her top alcohol funny car for a high-speed showdown!
NORWALK, Ohio – For folks in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, the beautiful girl next door with the ready smile may be 25-year-old Cassie Simonton.
But by now Minnesota folks also know better than to challenge Simonton to anything automotive.
Unless they line up with a machine faster and more bad than the top alcohol funny car Cassie drives for car owners Spiro and Fay Kontos and the team at Kon Rodz Racing.
That’s Cassie’s car screaming down the quarter-mile drag strip at up to 261 mph and an elapsed time of down to 5.53 seconds.
Cassie’s enjoying the drive. “It’s my passion and what I love to do,” said Simonton. “Becoming a race car driver in the NHRA has been my dream for a long time.”
Simonton’s acceleration to success jumped off the starting line at age eight racing MDRA junior dragsters. By the time she doubled her age, she more than doubled her speed, strapping into a top dragster at age 16.
Driving top alcohol funny cars since age 23, Simonton hopes to move up from her number three position in Northwest Regional standings.
At B’laster Cavalcade of Stars presented by Budweiser, an NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event May 18 - 20 at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio she will race against a field of at least 16 top alcohol funny cars.
